Poland description

There are currently 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Poland, and additional 6 sites on the UNESCO Tentative List as well as 16 entries in the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme.

Millions of tourists visit the outstanding Poland's UNESCO World Heritage Sites every year!

Roman-Catholic sanctuaries are Poland's landmarks. The majority of pilgrims flock to the Pauline Monastery on Jasna Gora, the spiritual capital of the country, in Czestochowa. Here you will find the blessed and miraculous icon of the Black Madonna, venerated both in Poland and abroad.

Travelers from around the world swarm to Poland for a variety of reasons. While the cities are a major draw, Polish national parks are also an exceptional reason to visit the country. The twenty-three protected areas represent the best scenery and outdoor exploration opportunities. Each one is remarkable but the most appealing and popular ones are genuine wonders and make a list of the must-see for nature-lovers.

For instance, Bialowieza National Park, listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage, is one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. The area is home to the largest population of European bison in the world.

On top of that, in Poland, under the surface, there are real treasures to be found like fabulous caves, mysterious tunnels, multi-storey medieval cellars and even entire cities build by the military. For example, the royal salt mine in Wieliczka is under the protection of UNESCO.

Also, after countless wars and other political and social turbulences, the well preserved and restored imposing castles and palaces are now part of Poland's highlights.

There are over 500 castles and 2,5 thousand of palaces scattered all over Poland.

In adittion, numerous influences have made Polish cuisine very rich in flavors. Culinary diversity is one of Poland's treasures! Today, chefs are combining the rich, centuries-old traditions of Polish cuisine with contemporary culinary trends, creating unique but typically Polish flavors. They select the best Polish products from environmentally-friendly regions where traditional farming methods are still in use.

Some of the most trending gastronomic regions are Pomerania and Silesia. The best foodie cities across the country, are Krakow, Lodz, Poznan, Warsaw, and Wroclaw.
