Preveza description

Preveza is a town in the region of Epirus, northwestern Greece, located at the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf. Preveza will charm you with its lovely pier, yacht-filled marina, lots of restaurants, cafes, bars, the narrow-streets historical center with stylish shops and remarkable architecture, cobbled alley of Seitan Bazaar, the Archaeological Museum, the Venetian clock tower and its sun dial; significant old churches with exceptional paintings, wooden carved iconostasis and more!

The Aktio-Preveza Immersed Tunnel, the first and so far only undersea tunnel in Greece, connects it to Epirus and the rest of the mainland Greece.

The ruins of the ancient city of Nicopolis (29 BC), founded by Caesar Augustus in commemoration of his victory (31 BC) over Antony and Cleopatra at the naval Battle of Actium on the Ionian Sea, lie just 7 km north of Preveza. Many impressive ruins of the ancient city may be visited today, such as the Roman nymphaeum, the Odeon, the theatre, the aqueduct, the gates and large sections of the original wall, among other remains.

Furthermore, one may reach the Ambracian Gulf with its numerous lagoons to its north side while the nearby estuaries of Louros and Arachthos are of exceptional ecological interest.

Preveza region breathes thanks to the Ambracian Gulf, an ecosystem of exceptional biological and ecological value, the Ionian coasts, and the surrounding forests.

There are about 60 km of charming beaches, with crystal blue-shades waters to explore and fine swimming, in this corner of Epirus, from Preveza to Parga.

Bays, peninsulas, gulfs, sandy beaches and rocks alternate harmoniously. Pine forests stretching down to the welcoming beaches provide the ideal combination of sun and shade.
