The name "Dimitsana" first appeared in a manuscript from 967, possibly of Slav origin. The village played a crucial role in the Greek Revolution of 1821, particularly as a supplier of gunpowder, and was also an important hub of resistance against the German occupation during World War II. Dimitsana is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture, featuring stone-built houses and mansions, many of which have been restored. The village is registered as a traditional settlement, protected by the Ministry of Culture, making it a unique and authentic destination. The village boasts several attractions, including the Open air Hydrokinesis (water power) Museum, which showcases pre-industrial facilities like flour mills, tanneries, and gunpowder mills.
