It situated on the Euripus Strait that separates the Greek island of Euboea in the Aegean Sea from Boeotia in mainland. A popular sight is the church of Saint Paraskevi (the patron saint of the island), among the oldest examples of early Dominican architecture surviving, and is one of the only early Dominican churches to retain its original form until the present. Besides, the central arch, the ceiling and walls of the south chapel are the best examples of Italian Gothic stone-carving in Greece. Also, some of the column capitals are Byzantine. Chalkida is connected to the mainland Greece by two bridges, the Sliding Bridge (an ideal place to watch the unique tidal phenomenon) in the west at the narrowest point of the Euripus Strait and the Euripus Bridge, a suspension bridge. So you don’t have to take a boat to get there. A special tidal phenomenon takes place in the strait, as strong tidal currents reverse direction once every six hours, creating strong currents and maelstroms. Popular lively spots include the waterfront; a charming pedestrian street lined with cafes and restaurants buzzing with life day and night, with the delicious seafood and a warm atmosphere. Popular sights include the Karababas fortress, a Venetian fort on the top of a hill that offers a bird’s eye view of the city and Evoikos Gulf. And, of course, the superb beaches are a must-do! There are many hidden gems as well. Chalkida related toursWe at Monterrasol Travel welcome you to see Chalkida during multi-day small group car tour.
