Croatia, officially the Republic of Croatia is a beautiful country at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe, on the Adriatic Sea. Inhabited since the Paleolithic Age, it borders Slovenia to the northwest, Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro to the southeast, sharing a maritime border with Italy.
Croatia is a geographically diverse country, featuring low mountains and highlands near the Adriatic coastline, flat plains that hug the Hungarian border, and a multitude of islands. The country has a long coastline with over a thousand islands along its coast at the Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea). The terrain includes rocky coastlines, flat plains along the Hungarian border, densely wooded mountains, lakes, and rolling hills.
Croatia's climate varies by region. In the north, it is continental, while along the coast, it is Mediterranean with hot, sunny summers and mild winters. The central region has a semi-highland and highland climate.
The first Croats settled in the area around A.D. 500. They ruled themselves for many years, but eventually became part of the Hungarian Empire in 1091. When the Ottoman Empire began to expand in the 15th century, they became concerned they would be taken over by the Ottomans, so they asked Archduke Ferdinand if they could join the Austrian Habsburg Empire. In 1868, Croatia again went under the rule of Hungary, which lasted until World War II when it became part of Yugoslavia. The war brought terrible hardships on the country under German and Italian rule. When it ended, the Communist Party took control over the country of Yugoslavia. In the early 1990s, communism collapsed throughout Eastern Europe, and Croatia declared its independence from Yugoslavia, leading to a civil war that lasted until the Dayton Agreement was signed in December 1995, bringing peace to the area.
The sovereign state of Croatia is a republic governed under a parliamentary system and a developed country with a very high standard of living. Since 2000, the Croatian government has constantly invested in infrastructure, especially transport routes and facilities along the Pan-European corridors.
Tourism is a significant source of revenue, with Croatia ranked among the top 20 most popular tourist destinations in the world. Croatia is famous for its medieval towns and villages, and its pleasant Mediterranean climate makes it a popular holiday destination within Europe. After being picked up in Prapratno, we will go to the unique Vjetrenica Cave, which is on the UNESCO Tentative List. It involves an easy walk. A highly uncommon salamander known as Human Fish can be found there. The well-known 15th-century Orthodox Tvrdos Monastery, which is renowned for its wine production, will be our next stop. There, we will taste some of the region's best white, rose, and red wines. We'll then travel to Trebinje, a charming and lively town.
The next day, we will go to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Radimlja to learn about the old gravestones with intricate carvings that are unique to this area. The next attraction is the historical town of Blagaj, a UNESCO Tentative List Site, which is home to a 15th-century Dervish monastery built close to the Buna River's spring with crystal-clear water. We will wrap up today by exploring the lively Mostar, a bustling UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our journey proceeds to the iconic city of Mostar to explore its famous historical center (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and admire the reconstructed 16th‑century Stari Most (Old Bridge), a powerful symbol of reconciliation. We will stay overnight in Mostar.

After staying in Mostar, we take a short drive to Blagaj to visit the stunning Dervish monastery (Tekija) (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a 16th‑century Sufi (Islamic) retreat dramatically built at the source of the emerald Buna River. Day 3. After 2 nights in Mostar, we travel to Konjic to see its iconic Old Stone Bridge from the 17th century. We then continue to Sarajevo, the captivating capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina, and explore the city's historical center (UNESCO Tentative List Site), a vibrant mosaic of Eastern and Western influences. We visit the Gazi Husrev‑beg museum, wander through the bustling Bascarsija old bazaar, and admire the elegant Sebilj fountain. Our accommodation for the night is in Sarajevo.
Day 4. After staying in Sarajevo, we travel to the poignant Tunnel of Hope museum, a preserved underground passage that served as a vital lifeline during the city's siege in the 1990s. We then enjoy a scenic drive through the stunning Sutjeska National Park, one of Bosnia's oldest and most beautiful protected areas, before continuing to Trebinje to see the elegant Arslanagic Bridge from the 16th century. After that, we will come to Trebinje for accommodation.
Day 5. After staying in Trebinje, we travel to Tvrdos to explore its Serbian Orthodox monastery, originally founded in the 15th century, and sample local wines at its winery. We return to Trebinje to visit the hilltop Hercegovacka Gracanica church with its panoramic views, explore the charming historical center, and see the Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord cathedral. We stay another night in Trebinje.
Day 6. After 2 nights in Trebinje, we explore the fascinating Vjetrenica cave system (UNESCO World Heritage Site), renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity and spectacular underground formations. We then cross back into Croatia and travel to Ston to see its impressive fortress and the famous Ston walls, a monumental 5‑kilometer defensive system built by the Republic of Ragusa in the 14th‑15th centuries, often called the 'European Wall of China'. On the way from Zagreb down to coast we will visit Dubovac fortress. We will stay in town Rijeka, where we will see a local museum and 2 fortresses. On the way to Pula, we will see small town Labin with cute historic center and amazing view from hilltop. In Pula, the largest town of Croatian Istria, known for its multitude of ancient Roman buildings, we need to see the most famous one, the Pula Arena, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters. In Pula, we will see the historic center with fortress and few churches.
Before we will arrive to the the neighbor of Pula, the town Rovinj, we will see very good preserved castle Morosini and walk in Medieval Theme Park located nearby. In Rovinj, officially bilingual town with Italian and Croatian languages, we will walk over historic center to see the Basilica of St. Euphemia.
On the way to Dalmatia region, we will see town Senj, where need to see the symbol of the town, Nehaj fortress from 1558. Next, we will move to Zadar to walk over historical center and see why Zadar was important Venetian town.
In Sibenik, another Venetian town, we will see famous cathedral (UNESCO World Heritage site) and see its historical center and two fortresses. Close to Sibenik is also located coastal fortress St. Nicholas (UNESCO World Heritage site) we going to visit and walk around.
In another one Venetian town, Trogir (UNESCO World Heritage site), we will walk in historical center and harbor. Split, next Dalmatian town we going to visit, is well-known for its historical center with beautiful architecture.
On the way from Split to Mostar we will see fortress Klis, known by Game of Thrones. In Mostar (UNESCO World Heritage site) we will explore the historic center and walk over famous Mostar bridge.
After Mostar we will see historical town Blagaj with dervish monastery (tekija) built around 1520, historic town Pocitelj, served as open-air museum, with narrow streets and old Ottoman fort with great view.
On the way to Trebinje, we will see archaeological site Radimlja with carved gravestones (UNESCO World Heritage Site), hilly fortress Stolac with great view, and Vjetrenica cave (UNESCO World Heritage site).
In Trebinje, we will admire famous Tvrdos Orthodox monastery with it own wine cellar where we will taste local wines, see Ottoman bridge, hilly church with panoramic view of Trebinje, and renovated historical center of Trebinje. We will have a late lunch in local restaurant that serve local traditional food and drinks.
